Different couples need a wedding planner for different reasons. However, most couples who hired me as planner had some of the following situations in common:

    - They have a demanding work, social, or personal schedule
    - They are concerned about both the time commitment and the stress of planning a large event
    - They want their engagement period and wedding day to be a time of relaxation and joy
    - They want someone to help them find the best wedding vendors within their budget and someone to handle contract negotiations with vendors
    - They want to avoid common (and expensive) wedding pitfalls and receive valuable information and creative ideas that will help them save money in the long run
    - They are not sure how to express their joint sense of style and need a creative director to manage the process
    - They are planning a large, complicated, or unusual wedding
    - They are planning a wedding long distance
    - They are planning a destination wedding
    - They are experiencing difficulties managing family interests and need an advocate or referee to help them create the wedding of their dreams

That said, most couples get by just fine with lots of advance planning, help from friends and family, and in some cases a “day of” wedding coordinator. Only you know if you (and your budget) need a wedding planner.
