Designing a Custom Aisle Runner

4 September 2008 136 views No Comment

Designing a custom aisle runner for your wedding is an achievable wedding project any bride can complete in just one day.

When Denny and Jenni came to me they had already selected their wedding stationery which included a beautiful modern monogram. I was so taken with it, I suggested creating a custom aisle runner for them. This is something that is easy and inexpensive for you to do at home.

First purchase heavy white denim from your fabric store. I chose to edge this runner with chocolate grosgrain ribbon, but you can paint a border or leave it plain. Using a pencil, I carefully drew a very large copy of the monogram at the top of the aisle runner and then filled it in with craft paint. Jenny paused at this spot to kiss her father and take Denny’s hand.

Another, very artistic bride, painted five words on her runner all having to do with her definition of love – committment, joy etc. – so that she was “following the path to love” as she went down the aisle. The possibilities are endless.

I hope you decide to make your wedding day aisle runner just as special. Remember to cordon off the aisle with a ribbon to protect the runner – your guests will enter their rows/ pews from the outside. Have an usher remove the ribbon as your ceremony starts. That way the runner will be in pristine condition when you walk down the aisle.
